Sandra Brinkhoff creates works of art with a variety of media. The Coupling Series is a series of digital black and white photographs influenced by the concepts of coupling, duality, and the nature of two. Through her camera's lens, Brinkhoff inspires us to recognize the duality that exists in all of us.
Brinkhoff's Medical Illustrations are created using watercolor, colored pencil, and pen and ink. Her illustrations are created for the legal, publishing, and pharmaceutrical industries. She has the ability to listen to the client's needs and then create anatomical illustrations as a teaching tool.
Brinkhoff is a native of Summit, NJ. After graduating in 1994 from The Ohio State University, Columbus, with a degree in Medical Illustration, Brinkhoff worked for a pharmaceutical advertising agency in New York City. She was chosen as one of three candidates to enter the prestigious Medical Illustration Program. Not only was she the youngest candidate in the program, but the only female chosen. During her undergraduate studies, she took the first year of medical school less embryology. Recently, she has found that her deep interest in medicine has evolved from the anatomical to the psychological. The Coupling Series takes her medical background to a new level, focusing on physical anomolies as a metaphor for the psychological.
